This Team's on the Ball
What a winning streak! On January 18, the University of Connecticut's women's basketball team made history. The UConn Huskies defeated Georgetown 72-49 for a 55th straight win. They broke the old record of 54 wins set by Louisiana Tech from 1980 to 1982.
"Winning 55 in a row--that's pretty special," said All-American junior Diana Taurasi, who scored 22 points in the big game. "It ranks up there--a little bit behind the national championship, but it's up there." Last season, the team went 39-0 and won its third national title in seven years. The Huskies had not lost a game since March 30, 2001.
