Soccer Superstar

Soccer star Freddy Adu has more on his mind than scrimmages and orange slices. At 14, he is already one of the top soccer prospects in the world. Born in Ghana, in Africa, Freddy became an American citizen last year after moving with his family to Maryland in 1997. Last month, he scored four goals for the U.S. as the youngest player in the Under-17 World Championship. "My goal is to be the youngest player to start for the U.S. team in the World Cup," he says. Freddy is so popular that he sometimes needs a bodyguard to keep fans from tearing off his clothes. "If people want to grab your shirt and take off your shoes, that means they love the way you play," Freddy says, smiling. In May, Nike signed the talented teen to a $1 million ad contract. How's this for a new slogan: Just Adu It!
