Look Who's Turning 40
Grab a pencil to draw the drapes. Dust your furniture--with lots of extra dust. Amelia Bedelia, kids' favorite mixed-up housekeeper, turns 40 this year! Herman Parish was in fourth grade when his Aunt Peggy wrote the first Amelia Bedelia book. When she died in 1988, he began to write the books. The latest, Amelia Bedelia, Bookworm, arrived last month.
"Kids love to see grown-ups making mistakes," says Parish. Amelia Bedelia often mixes up word meanings. But when she goofs, she saves the day with her tasty desserts. To celebrate her birthday, try her special pie: lemon meringue!
