Way to Go, Granny!
At the age of 90, Doris Haddock has just completed an amazing feat. She walked 3,200 miles across the U.S.! Says the humble great-grandmother, whose nickname is Granny D.: "All I did was put one foot in front of the other."
Haddock crossed the country to spread her belief that political candidates spend too much money running for office. "The only way to get elected today is to have a lot of money," she says. She worries that people who donate a lot of campaign money will have too much say in how the government is run.
Haddock finished her 14-month walk last Tuesday in Washington, D.C. She was greeted by more than 2,000 fans, many of whom had cheered her on during her journey. What will she do next? "I'm going to write a book," she says, "while sitting down."
