Who Savion Glover, 26
Claim to Fame Star tap dancer on stage, in films and on Sesame Street. Co-wrote Savion! My Life in Tap (HarperCollins).
Q Your mom signed you up for tap classes when you were 7 years old. Where did you practice?
A Everywhere. I would dance waiting for a cab, walking, in the shower ...
Q Did the noise bother your neighbors?
A Not then. Now my neighbors might get shaky!
Q Which tap dancer influenced you most?
A All of them - and I mean all of them - from Diane Walker to Gregory Hines to Jimmy Slyde to Sammy Davis Jr. They all welcomed me and influenced my style.
Q Where do you get ideas for your dance steps?
A I get ideas from listening to music. Maybe after this interview I'll get an idea ...
Q For about five years, you were a tap teacher on Sesame Street. Which Muppet was hardest to teach?
A Snuffleupagus - he has four feet! Elmo's my favorite. He's always finding out something new, kind of like me.
Q Any advice for kids who want to learn to tap?
A Don't just learn how to tap. Learn the history and people of the dance. See the groove.
