Spotlight: Stephanie Taylor
Stephanie Taylor, 11, spent last summer delivering empty Chinese-food cartons to veterinary offices and pet shops in California's San Diego County. She used the cartons to collect cash for her pet project, buying bulletproof vests for police dogs. Stephanie's program, Vest A Dog, began in May when she read about Solo, a police dog that was killed on the job. Her project www.dogvest.com has raised $23,000. Now all 54 San Diego County police dogs have vests. This week the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals gave Stephanie an award. "You can accomplish anything," she says.
