George Dawson: Life Is So Good

George Dawson has a real-life story that would make a great tall tale. The grandson of slaves, Dawson was born in a log cabin in Marshall, Texas, in 1898. When he was just 8 years old, he began working to help support his family. He never went to school or learned to read--until three years ago, at age 98!

"Ever since I turned 100, life has been busy," says Dawson. He tells his tale in a new book, Life Is So Good. In Dallas on February 6, Dawson plans to take part in the African-American Read-In Chain, a two-day program that aims to have 2 million people read a work by an African-American author.
