The World's Big Party

From Egypt's Great Pyramids to France's Eiffel Tower, from China's Great Wall to New York City's Times Square, the world celebrated the new millennium with fireworks, lights and parties. Millions of people stayed up late, put on silly hats and welcomed the year 2000.

Many cultures celebrated the event despite the fact that they follow different calendars. According to the Jewish calendar, it is the year 5760; the Chinese calendar reads 4697; and it's only 1420 on the Muslim calendar. Cuba declared there should be no celebration since the millennium doesn't really start until next year. Party poopers!
