Return Of The Mummy
Their mummy has come home! Egyptians celebrated the return of an ancient ruler last week. The Michael Carlos Museum in Atlanta, Georgia, sent back the remains of the long-dead ruler. He might have been Ramses I, a powerful Egyptian pharaoh from the 13th century B.C. Nearly 150 years ago, a Canadian took the mummy from its tomb in the Valley of the Kings. In 1999, it was sold to the museum in Atlanta.
Now that the mummy is back in Egypt, researchers will study its bones. One clue that it could be Egyptian royalty: the way the mummy's arms are folded high across its chest. "We are not 100% sure that the mummy is Ramses I," said Zahi Hawass, the director of Egypt's archaeological research, "but we are 100% sure that this is a king."
