The Race Grows Tighter
Election Day is just two months away, and this year’s presidential race has never been closer. Last week, both major candidates focused on states where they are running neck and neck.
Texas Governor George W. Bush, the Republican Party’s candidate, talked about strengthening America’s schools while visiting New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Kentucky.
His Democratic rival, Vice President Al Gore, traveled to Oregon and Washington and other states to talk about improving U.S. health care.
Despite the tense race, both candidates have avoided making nasty attacks on each other. That’s why a new Bush TV ad mocking Gore’s truthfulness got lots of attention last Friday.
Both candidates expressed confidence in their campaigns. "I’m feeling a lot more energy and enthusiasm," said Gore. "The campaign is in excellent shape," said Bush.
