Spotlight: Daniel Radcliffe
British actor Daniel Radcliffe, 11, isn’t as wild about Harry Potter as most kids. He read the first two books in the series but admits he has "since forgotten everything!" Still, he’s thrilled to be playing the boy wizard in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the film based on J.K. Rowling’s first book.
"I was really excited," says Daniel, center, who beat out thousands of Muggles for the part. He didn’t cast a spell to land the role. The film’s producer spotted him and saw a remarkable resemblance! Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, pictured also, will play Harry’s friends Hermione and Ron.
Daniel says he and Harry aren’t very similar, except that they both like owls. "I’d like to have one," he says. For now Daniel keeps busy playing with his pooch, watching wrestling ... oh, and reading the rest of Rowling’s books! The Warner Bros. film is due out November 2001.
