The Olympics' Colorful Kickoff

Talk about a grand opening! Last Friday, nearly 13,000 performers filled Olympic Stadium in Sydney, Australia, with dreamlike costumes, flames, flags, fireworks and thunderous music. The opening ceremony was Sydney's way of saying "G'day" to the world.
The Games' 10,800 athletes marched proudly beneath their national flags. For North and South Korea, that march was historic. The two Koreas have been enemies for more than 50 years. But their teams united under one flag. "I was deeply moved," said North Korean Olympic official Yun Sung Bom. "I hope this mood will continue."
For the U.S. women's soccer team, the Games began before the ceremony. They won their first game 2-0, beating tough Norway, on September 14.
