Spotlight

Although she stars in one of the most popular American children's TV shows, Rugrats, you may not know what CREE SUMMER looks like. Summer works behind the scenes, recording the voice of toddler Suzy Carmichael. Last month, Suzy grew up a little, with the start of a new series called All Grown Up. It shows the Rugrats as school-age kids. "They were babies before," Summer says, "and now they're talking to other kids and to grown-ups." Summer recorded her first cartoon voice, that of Penny on Inspector Gadget, when she was just 11. Until then, television was mostly unknown to her. Summer once lived on an Indian reservation. She didn't watch TV until she moved to Toronto, Canada, and started fourth grade. Summer told TFK that she loves playing a Rugrat. "The hardest part is to stop laughing sometimes, because you can wreck a recording with giggles," she says.
