Spotlight
In December 2002, Choki Lhamo and Gyelsey Loday started work on a big, big project. The 14-year-olds helped create the world's largest published book. Bhutan: A Visual Odyssey Across the Last Himalayan Kingdom is five feet high, opens to almost seven feet wide and weighs more than 130 pounds! It features colorful pictures of Bhutan, the country in Asia where Choki and Gyelsey live.
Choki and Gyelsey guided Michael Hawley, the book's author, on a one-month trip through Bhutan. The kids took pictures with special digital cameras.
The book went on sale last month for $10,000 a copy. Choki is thrilled that the profits will be used to improve education in Bhutan. "The schools are small," she says. "We need more op-portunities to learn."
