The Democrats Race On ...

The race for the Democratic nomination for the Presidency entered a wider national stage last Tuesday. Primaries or caucuses were held in seven states.

The front-runner, Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts, was the winner in five states. But North Carolina Senator John Edwards won in South Carolina, and General Wesley Clark won in Oklahoma.

Connecticut Senator Joseph Lieberman left the race after a poor showing. He told his supporters that his was "a difficult but realistic decision." Howard Dean, Vermont's former governor, hadn't won a single contest.

By last Friday, candidates had moved on to campaign in other states that are holding contests soon (see map). For an update on those races, go to timeforkids.com.
