Spotlight: Anthony Guglielmo
Anthony Guglielmo really rubs animals the right way! A licensed massage therapist, he puts his healing hands on penguins, horses, dolphins and other animals. One of his steady patients is Nuka, a walrus at the New York Aquarium. In 1996 Nuka had surgery for a severe tusk infection. To keep her stitches from getting wet, her caregivers placed her in a dry tank to heal. But her muscles got stiff, making it hard for her to move. Medicine didn't help. So the workers asked Guglielmo to lend a hand.
Guglielmo, 37, gave the walrus a weekly rubdown, free of charge. Nuka is fine now, but Guglielmo goes back a couple of times a month to keep her happy. "I just love animals," he says.
