Top 5 Most Common U.S. Birds
Last month, 42,000 people took part in the Great Backyard Bird Count. They counted the number of each species of bird they spotted in their area. The list helps scientists who study U.S. bird populations. These are the five most common birds in the U.S., according to this year's count.
1 Mourning dove -- 23,307 sightings
2 Northern cardinal -- 22,920
3 Dark-eyed junco -- 20,909
4 Blue jay -- 18,039
5 American goldfinch -- 17,433
