Against the Tides
Record-breaking distance swimmer Lynne Cox has no use for cement pools. Cox, 47, swims the open ocean, sometimes among hungry sharks or curious penguins. In her new book, Swimming to Antarctica, she writes about being the first person to swim in the ice-flecked Antarctic Ocean without a wet suit. "It's like climbing a mountain that's never been climbed before," she told the Reuters news agency.
