Top 5 Rainiest Days in the U.S.
On June 22, 1947, Holt, Missouri, broke the U.S. record for rainfall in the shortest amount of time. Twelve inches of rain fell there in less than 45 minutes, and it wasn't even an April shower! Here are the places in the U.S. that have had the most rain in a 24-hour period.
1 Alvin, Texas, 43 inches on July 25-26, 1979
2 Yankeetown, Florida, 38.7 inches on September 5, 1950
3 Kilauea Plantation, Hawaii, 38 inches on January 24-25, 1956
4 Smethport, Pennsylvania, 34.5 inches on July 17, 1942
5 Dauphin Island, Alabama, 32.5 inches on July19-20, 1997
