A New Crew in Orbit
All aboard! Last Wednesday, a Russian spacecraft brought three new crew members to the International Space Station (ISS). The crew members are Michael Fincke from the U.S., Russia's Gennady Padalka and Andre Kuipers from the Netherlands. They will conduct experiments and ensure that the station continues to work properly.
U.S. space shuttles once carried crews to the ISS. But since the Columbia disaster, on February 1, 2003, only Russia's Soyuz spacecrafts have brought astronauts to the ISS. Fred Gregory, the deputy administrator at NASA, thanked Russia for "again providing an excellent launch, excellent ride and excellent docking as we continue this great friendship and journey together."
