A Vision of Independence
Last year, KAYLA LEGARE, 17, decided to help visually impaired people gain more independence. Kayla, who lost her eyesight at age 4, founded Braille the World. Her company makes menus in Braille, a language of raised dots that blind people read with their fingers. About 70 restaurants in her native Montana now use her menus. Next month, Kayla will speak at a national conference on living with disabilities. "You choose your handicap," she says. "If you want to do something, the only person that can hold you back is yourself."
