Spotlight: Carly Patterson
U.S. gymnast CARLY PATTERSON won gold and wowed the crowd at the Olympics. But she wasn't always a golden girl. Early in her career, Carly finished 76th at the Junior Olympics. "I had bad form. Bad everything," Carly admitted recently. But she was determined to reach the top. She started training twice a day, 32 hours a week. Her hard work paid off. Carly, 16, became only the second American woman to win Olympic gold for all-around gymnastics.
Carly's new dream? She hopes one day to attend college and become an orthodontist. In the meantime, you can catch the champ on a Wheaties cereal box. "I hope this inspires every young girl to strive for her dreams," Carly says.
