Coloring the Country

The U.S. map just got a little jolt of color. In a contest, kids and adults dreamed up new names for Crayola crayons. Each name describes something special about a part of the U.S. For instance, Maine's new color is Lobster Red. It was suggested by 9-year-old Allison Dobstetter. The black Illinois crayon is named Abe Lincoln's Hat, in honor of the President from Springfield, Illinois. Credit for that idea goes to Austin Hildebrand, 7.

Crayola announced the winning names last week. All 64 are included in Crayola's new State Crayon Collection box. Dylan Lehman, 8, came up with 10,000 Lakes of Blue. It represents his home state, Minnesota. "I love our lakes," Dylan says. "And I love blue."
