The Violence Continues
Since TFK's recent report ("Can Sudan Be Saved?" 10/29), the Sudanese government has stepped up its campaign against refugees in the country's Darfur region. Last week, government security forces attacked thousands at the El Geer refugee camp. People had gone there to escape attacks. Jan Pronk, the top United Nations representative in Sudan, called for an end to the government's violent treatment of refugees. "It has to stop--not only in El Geer but as a policy everywhere," he said.
