A Change on the President's Team
The election is settled. Now there will be some changes in top government jobs. Last Tuesday, John Ashcroft resigned from his job as the U.S. attorney general.
President George W. Bush nominated Alberto Gonzales to take Ashcroft's place. "His sharp intellect and sound judgment have helped shape our policies in the war on terror," says Bush of Gonzales.
As the top law-enforcement officer in the country, the attorney general heads the Department of Justice. It's one of many departments whose leaders are in the President's Cabinet, or group of close advisers.
If Gonzales is approved by the Senate, he will become the first Hispanic to hold the position. More Cabinet resignations are expected.
