A Super-Size Salute As Scrabble Turns 50
In the early 1930s, a New York architect named Alfred Butts invented a game called Criss Cross Words. Butts tried selling his game but had no luck. Maybe it was that boring name! In 1948 it was renamed Scrabble, and sales took off. This month the world's most popular word game got a giant happy-birthday wish at Wembley Stadium in London, England.
