Winner's Circle: Aaron Yamagata
Aaron Yamagata of Encino, California. So he drew an uncommon birthday card: a rose bursting with balloons and a candle. It beat thousands of other entries from kids ages 5 to 14 in the 1998 Expressions from Hallmark Kids Card Contest. Aaron, 8, won the $500 prize in his age category. His design is now being sold as a Hallmark card! An artist's son, Aaron has won eight art contests. His advice to young artists? "Speak from your heart and paint."
