Enemies? Not These Two

In the wild, grizzly bears and polar bears live in very different habitats. But Oreo, a grizzly, and Ahpun (ah-poon), a polar bear, have been "roommates" at the Alaska Zoo for months. The motherless female cubs were lonely. Oreo used to hide in her pen. Ahpun would "cry" in long, low moans when zookeepers left her. Bear experts decided to put the cubs together--slowly. After a couple of days, the cubs were sharing toys, splashing in water and chasing each other around. Now the only time Oreo and Ahpun are separated is during mealtime. Even best friends will fight over food!
