NBA Heroes
Japheth Youmans and Heidi Lopez of New York City just won a big award from the NBA. But they're too busy to shoot hoops. Together they have done 700 hours of community-service work! The NBA's TeamUp Program, which helps young volunteers, honored them last week. Ahmad Rashad of NBA Inside Stuff also saluted them, above. Japheth, 15, started a clothing bank for the needy. Heidi, 14, gets schools to collect food for the poor. "The problems are bigger than I thought," she says, "yet easier to solve than I thought they would be."
