Spotlight: Robert V.J. Gupta

Most toddlers are happy to watch cartoons. Not Robert V.J. Gupta. When he was 3, Robert would change the TV channel to classical-music concerts because "they were more amusing!" He soon took up the violin, and now delights audiences with concerts of his own. Robert, 10, usually plays with adult orchestras at such famous places as New York City's Carnegie Hall. "They always treat me like a professional," he told TFK.

Robert practices violin four hours a day and has a black belt in karate. Next month he will perform in India, where his parents lived before moving to New York. "The violin is a wonderful instrument," says Robert, who hopes to become a conductor. "It has brought me so many places."
