Gates Gives a Grand Gift

Kids across the country are getting a great big holiday present from Microsoft chairman Bill Gates. Gates said last week that Microsoft will donate $100 million-$12.3 million in cash and $88 million in computer software-to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
The donation will help the clubs add Internet access and software over the next five years. Says Gates: "Every year we need to do more to expand access" to computers for kids whose families can't afford them.
Gates and Microsoft are also helping children in other countries. In November he agreed to provide more than 300 libraries in Chile with Internet-linked computers. Microsoft is donating $1.2 million in software, and Gates is giving $5 million of his own money.
