A Tale Ahead Of Its Time
Langston Hughes is famous for writing about black America. But few people know he co-wrote a children's story set in Mexico. The Pasteboard Bandit tells of two friends and their magical toy. Written in 1935, it was rejected by publishers who said kids wouldn't want to read about other cultures. But there's a happy ending. Now, 30 years after Hughes' death, his tale is in bookstores.
