An October Surprise

A freak October snowstorm roared across seven states last week. Colorado was hit hardest with 4 1/2 feet of snow. The storm snapped trees and power lines and stranded travelers. At least 16 deaths were blamed on the storm.

"It's a bigger mess than we originally thought," said Delores Jacobberger, who works at the power company in Omaha, Nebraska. "We're finding wires down, and roads are impassable."

Thousands were without power for days. By week's end most of the snow was gone, but the losses and damage won't just melt away.
