A Prize For All That Jazz
The 80-year-old Pulitzer Prizes have gone jazzy! Last week trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, 35, became the first jazz musician to win the respected prize. Columbia University in New York City gives the awards for outstanding work in journalism, literature, drama and music. Marsalis' composition Blood on the Fields is performed by a big band and three singers. It tells the story of two Africans sold into slavery in the U.S. and the hardships of plantation life.
