Presidential Relief Pitcher
Secretary of State Madeleine Albright threw out the first pitch for the Baltimore (Maryland) Orioles on opening day at Camden Yards last Wednesday. Usually, the President has the honor of opening the Orioles' first home game. But with Bill Clinton still on the injured list, the Administration put second-stringer Albright on the mound.
Her toss fell about 15 feet short of home plate, then bounced a little. The Orioles had asked Albright to throw a curve ball. "I'm not up to curve balls," admitted the rookie pitcher. "I think I'll keep my day job."
