The New National Poet
April is National Poetry Month. Just in time, Robert Pinsky has been named the country's 39th poet laureate. For two years he will promote poetry in libraries and schools and maybe on the Internet, which Pinsky loves. His own verses are inspired by everyday things. An avid baseball fan, he wrote these lines in "The Night Game":
The silver potion
of the lights...The emerald
Theater, the night.
