Show Me The Team Spirit
Michael Volpe was one fed-up fan. His team, the Giants, had traded his favorite ballplayer, Matt Williams. So last fall he wrote to baseball teams offering himself as a "free-agent fan." Thirty teams wrote back, wooing Volpe with caps and balls. He chose the big-league Phillies and the minor-league Durham Bulls. Their winning pitches: vows to keep ticket prices low and team spirit high.
