If you were moving to the U.S. from another country, where would you settle? Some immigrants pick states closest to their homeland. Others move where jobs are available or where relatives live. In 1995, 720,461 immigrants arrived legally in the United States. Here's where most of the newcomers settled:
1. California: 166,482
2. New York: 128,406
3. Florida: 62,023
4. Texas: 49,963
5. New Jersey: 39,72
