Bill Clinton's New Team
For weeks President Clinton has been weighing the decisions: Whom should he pick as key advisers for his second term? Last week the names began to emerge. The biggest news: the Secretary of State will be Madeleine Albright, 59. She is the first woman ever to hold that powerful job. The Secretary of State is the President's main adviser on dealings with foreign countries.
Albright is now the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. She is considered to be tough, outspoken and fair. Clinton praised her "steely determination to advance our interests around the world."
Albright came to the U.S. from Czechoslovakia when she was just 11. She spoke last week of her love for her adopted land. "Because of this nation's kindness," she said, "I have had the opportunity to live my life among the most generous and courageous people on earth."
Working with Albright will be new Defense Secretary William Cohen, a Republican, and new CIA Director Anthony Lake.
