Big Baby News at the Zoo
![]() |
A baby elephant in Seattle, Washington, is making giant news. The two-month-old, whose mother is from Thailand, is one of only three Asian elephants born in North America this year. She weighed a whopping 235 pounds at birth! How do you say "humongous" in Thai? Asian elephants are an endangered species, so zookeepers at the Woodland Park Zoo are ecstatic about their new resident. The zoo is holding a contest in February to name the baby. The prize is a trip for two to Thailand. Visit www.zoo.org to see more photos of the proud mom and her baby.
