Spotlight: Andruw Jones
There is joy in Curacao! The tiny Caribbean island has a new national hero--the mighty Andruw Jones. Jones, 19, smacked two home runs in the opening game of the World Series, leading the Atlanta Braves to a 12-1 win over the New York Yankees. "The team was on fire, and I was kind of on fire too," he said. Jones is the youngest player to homer in a World Series. He broke Yankee Mickey Mantle's record. Mantle was almost 21 when he hit his first Series homer in 1952.
After the game, many of Curacao's 150,000 people danced in the streets. The 38-mile-long island holds just three times as many people as Yankee Stadium does!
