Spotlight: Dinosaur Hunters
Paleontologist Michael Novacek and his fellow Dinosaur Hunters have dug up major scientific discoveries in Mongolia's Gobi Desert. On October 13, a National Geographic Explorer special on TBS takes viewers to the team's Gobi gold mine of 80 million-year-old fossils.
"The Gobi Desert of Central Asia is one of the great desolate spaces on earth," says Novacek. "But it is paradise for paleontologists."
In an area just five miles wide, the team has found fossilized dinosaur eggs, birdlike theropod skeletons and previously unknown species. Two hunters, Lowell Dingus and Mark A. Norell, have written a new book for kids about their Gobi trips: Searching for Velociraptor (HarperCollins).
