Spotlight: Eric Carle

Careful biting into your next McDonald's burger--you could find a caterpillar! The star of Eric Carle'S classic children's book The Very Hungry Caterpillar and five buggy friends you may recognize from your kindergarten days are featured as finger puppets in Happy Meal boxes.

McDonald's wants to encourage kids to read. Carle may be the perfect spokesman. He has written and illustrated more than 60 books. He is the subject of a new book, The Art of Eric Carle. It explores his life and career and shows how he uses colored tissue paper to make his world-famous pictures. "I will probably never retire from creating books," says Carle, 67.
