A Dangerous Revenge

People on both sides of the Israel-Lebanon border were frightened last week. An ugly battle broke out between Israel and a Muslim terrorist group called Hizballah (Hiz-buh-lah), which is based in Beirut, Lebanon.

Early in the week, Hizballah agents attacked northern Israel, wounding 36 Israelis and killing a soldier. On Thursday, Israel struck back by bombing Hizballah's headquarters in Beirut. One man was reported killed and five were wounded.

Hizballah threatened to strike again, but Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres said, if the terrorists have bombs, Israel has even bigger bombs. Peres is up for re-election in May. He feels he must take a tough stand against terrorism, even if it hurts the peace process.
