Spotlight: Ellen MacArthur
Ellen MacArthur sailed around the world all alone in 94 days, 4 hours, 25 minutes and 40 seconds. This makes the 24-year-old Brit the fastest woman and the youngest sailor to circle the globe solo in a nonstop race! MacArthur, who docked in France last week, competed against 23 others in the Vendee Globe, a tough race spanning nearly 25,000 miles. A collision with an unidentified object slowed her, but she fixed her 60-foot yacht, Kingfisher, and placed second. Winner Michel Desjoyeaux of France had finished a day earlier."It was a dream to do this race," MacArthur said. She plans to sail from Europe to the U.S. and back-this time with a crew-in the Atlantic Challenge this summer.
