Kate Flor-Stagnato invented something so cool, she was named an EnergySmart Schools inventor of the year! Kate, one of four winners, made a beeping air-conditioner. The fourth-grader's invention signals people when energy is being wasted. This is how it works: the air-conditioner is connected to nearby windows with sensors. It beeps if a window is open while the air-conditioner is on. Last month Kate traveled to California to build her invention with a Berkeley Lab scientist.
What will she invent next? "Something like in The Jetsons," says Kate, 9, "so you could wake up and have something brush your teeth and help you get dressed."
