Spotlight: Director Chris Wedge

After getting a behind-the-scenes look at the new animated movie Robots, TFK Kid Reporter Ross Workman learned that it was based on a load of junk. Director Chris Wedge told Ross that items that had been thrown away or for-gotten were his inspiration. The main character, Rodney Copperbottom, is modeled on an old motor. Robot City, with its many levels, resembles an old pocket watch. There, Rodney has many adventures with his friends, the Rusties.

A team of 36 animators worked to turn trash into treasure. "There's pres-sure to get things done," Wedge says, "but at the end of the day, it's people putting their imaginations to work."
