In 1976 Marc Brown's son asked him to tell a story about a "weird animal." That night Arthur was born! Today the aardvark appears in more than 75 books and on a TV show. Brown, shown here in third grade, based some characters on his former classmates. "In third grade the material for my books was all around," he says. "Keep your eyes and ears open!"
