Turin 2006: Get Totally Airborne!

Talk about taking a flying leap. Aerial skiers, or freestylers, launch themselves off a 14-foot ramp of snow and then soar while doing a series of flips, twists and turns. The best freestyler in the world may be Jeret Peterson, 24, from Boise, Idaho. Peterson, who has skied since age 7, won the National Junior Aerials as a teenager. "The most important lesson I have learned is perseverance . . . never giving up," he told TFK Kid Reporter Kennedy Ficks. "It takes a long time to get to the top of anything, whether it is a mountain, career or sport." What's something about the skier that might surprise people? "I play the harmonica and love country music!" he says.
