A Winning Water Project

As a young girl, Shannon Babb, 18, wanted to study dinosaurs. Luckily for Utah, Babb's home state, the issue of water quality grabbed her attention. Babb spent six months studying pollution in Utah's Spanish Fork River. She found that humans were causing the pollution. On March 14, Babb won first prize--a $100,000 college scholarship--in the Intel Science Talent Search. "I've touched so many lives," she told TFK. "Combining service and science is really fulfilling."
